Pictures of minerals, mining and fossils on stamps

Recently I made the philately or knowledge about stamps to one of my hobbies, not only because of the following definition of the greek word - philatelist - by Georges Herpin in the year 1864, which goes like this:

"friend of what is tax-free from state’s expenses"

with further description here in the language of stamps and brittles.

It is also because, within the stamp pile inherited from my Great-Grandfather and my Grandfather, I found a couple of stamps, showing minerals and fossils upon, which I picked out to present them here. Meanwhile I bought several stamps more - for example the one from Slowenia with Fluorite as a stereoscopic image, watch the 3D effect!

Itīs not that many, as one can see on the left, but an article in "Lexikon des Mineralienatlas", regarding that topic, is an incentive to extend the collection - you may continue reading here - www.mineralienatlas.de/lexikon/index.php/Briefmarken - and learn which countries already issued stamps with pictures of minerals.

Here you find a superb list, sorted by mineral name - Philatelic Mineralogy - wow!

One more searchable list is colnect.com, look for themes or search countrywise!

Or look at catawikis catalogue catawiki - stamps

Another very fine website is this - lapisphilatelie - minerals and mining on stamps and more.

You can find a substantial list at this stamp dealer page - Edelsteine und Mineralien auf Briefmarken - Note: I do not have any connections there in terms of business, this is for information purpose only!
